CAT | Cooking

I was hoping someone out there – perhaps someone who is involved in professional cooking – could tell me what they think are the best kitchen knives on the market at the moment. I am probably more interested in the main stream kitchen knives instead of some of the more exotic Japanese forging houses that not many people have heard of!

You see, it is my Mom’s birthday coming up soon, and I would like to try and get her something really special. She loves cooking and and making things in the kitchen, so I thought it would be a good present to get for her. From what I can tell the Wusthof or Shun knives are probably the best on the market at the moment, but I know they both have very strong brands and marketing, so if anyone knows of a better kitchen knife for her, then I would love to hear from you! Looking forward to it!

A good friend of mine, who is a sous chef, once told me that he believes the reason why people love to dine out so much, is that although they like the connivence, they enjoy eating food that they probably would not have the inclination to cook at home. When we get delivery he calls it “outsourcing” his meal. When he asks “do you want to outsource for dinner” that means “do you want to order in.” There are other ways to “outsource” food preparation at home other than ordering in. I recently discovered how delicious delivered meals can be. My mother, who has a heart condition, was told by her doctor that she needed to significantly reduce her sodium intake. She tried to prepare a low sodium diet for herself, but as a life long salt lover, she had trouble crafting meals that she thought were “tasty enough”. She went online to look up “low sodium diet” and found a meal delivery service that made low sodium meals, and gave it a try. She gets a weeks worth of frozen lunch and dinners at a time. I’ve tried them and they are very good! My mom told me that in her research, she uncovered Meal Delivery services that cater to all kinds of diets from weight-loss to diabetic, vegan, kosher, even gourmet!

As people are becoming more exposed to processed foods that lead to more intakes of sodium into their bodies, there is much need to raise the level of potassium by eating potassium rich foods. Although any people would think of supplements as the easiest way out to achieve that, experts warn that it is too dangerous to do it without prescription from doctors. Taking real potassium rich foods is therefore the safest way to go.

There are many potassium rich foods categories from which we can form many combinations to meet our daily dietary needs. Furthermore, we still have the option to reduce table salt which adds sodium to our bodies so that potassium levels are favored. Green leafy vegetables, fruits and legumes are excellent choices of potassium rich foods compared to supplements which also contain other acid-forming chemicals. Only people with diseases like diabetes and those who exercise a lot to loose potassium through excretion should take supplements after seeing a doctor.
